On Tuesday, 07/26/2022, His Highness Prince Jalawi bin Abdulaziz bin Musaed, governor of Najran, inaugurated the Jabal Qian gold mine and factory and laid the foundation stone for the expansion project of the “Amak” zinc and copper mine, at a cost of 600 million riyals.
Yahya Al-Shanqiti, CEO of the Grand Factories Mining Company, AMAC, delivered a speech during the ceremony held on this occasion, in which he praised the inauguration of the Qayan gold mine and factory, and laid the foundation stone for the expansion of the Al-Masani copper and zinc mine.
He explained that the company's projects in Thar Governorate contain a reserve of more than 8.2 million tons of copper and zinc ore and 4 million tons of gold ore reserves in the Qian mine. The production of copper concentrates is about 215,000 tons, zinc concentrates are about 298 thousand tons, and gold is about 24 thousand tons. An ounce of Al-Masanea mine and factory during the past ten years of production, and more than 40 square kilometers of underground were developed, indicating that the expansion of the Al-Masani mine will increase copper production by 40% and zinc to 80% next year, God willing.
Al-Shanqiti explained that the company focused on training human competencies, as 30 high school graduates from the Thar and Habouna governorates were sent for training at the Saudi Mining Technical Institute. Its interest is limited to human resources, but rather aims to preserve the environment and the safety of workers and develop the local commercial market, as local purchases from the Saudi market amounted to 177 million riyals, of which 44 million riyals were in the Najran region.
After that, His Highness the Prince of Najran inaugurated the Qian gold mine and factory project and laid the foundation stone for the expansion project of the Al-Masani zinc and copper mine, then watched a visual presentation of the company's activity and viewed the sculpted model.
He also viewed 5 brief presentations on the smart screen presented by Saudi engineers from the company's departments, during which they explained the production stages, then His Highness received a souvenir on this occasion.
